Frequently Asked Questions about Individual/Firm Renewals:

I renewed my license or registration but did not receive a wallet card or Wall Certificate, why?

Individual – The Board phased out wallet cards in 2000.To print the equivalent of a wallet card, go www.ncbarch.org under the Resource section, select Architect Search or Registered Interior Designer Search, you will select Licensee or Registrant, enter your license or registration number, your record will come up. If your license is current you will be able to print a certificate, which is the new equivalent of a license card.

Firm – The Board no longer issues firm wall certificates.

I didn’t get my renewal form, why? Do I still have to pay the late penalty?

Individual – The license year is July 1 to June 30. Renewals are emailed out in mid-May to the last known email address on file for you and are due by July 1st. If you have not received your renewal notice via email by June 1st, it is your responsibility to contact the Board office to determine the status. It is the architect’s or registered interior designers’s  responsibility to notify the Board office of all address changes by e-mail or in writing in a timely manner. All correspondence is sent to the last known email address.

Firm – The license year is January 1 to December 31.  Firm Renewals are emailed out in November each year to the last known email address on file for the firm and are due by January 1st. If you have not received your renewal notice via email by December 1st it is the firm owner’s responsibility to contact the Board office to determine the status. It is the firm owner’s responsibility to notify the Board office of all address changes by e-mail or in writing in a timely manner. All correspondence is sent to the last known email address.

As for paying late fees, it is the licensee or registrant’s responsibility to renew in a timely manner otherwise, all late fees apply.

Who can CERTIFY a renewal form?

Individual – The individual renewal on the Board web site is  considered a legal document and can only be certified by the licensed architect or registered interior designer assigned to that specific license or registration number. No exceptions will apply.

Firm – The CEO or other designated officer, director or shareholder of the firm.

I tried to renew online but was unable to, why?

Individual – An individual  cannot use the online renewal feature if their license is on probation for lack of continuing education or has been revoked (expired for more than a year). An individual is unable to renew online if they have answered “yes” to any questions in the “Moral Character” section of the renewal form or “no” to any of the questions in the “Continuing Education” section. Additionally, individuals cannot renew online if his or her credit card is denied.
